This week we developed our first rough graphic scores for the collective piece release. The themes of my piece are nostalgia, ambience, and live performance.
Title: Distance
recount a recent memory and pay attention to the way your brain is missing/changing details
recreate the sounds from your memory with what you have to hand and record it. play it back to yourself, then stand in a different part of the room with other instruments and objects. continue doing this until you find that what you are recreating no longer sounds like the original.
the idea is to illustrate that the further away from the site of a memory we are, in time and physical distance, our mind distorts the memories we hold
my idea for this score was to demonstrate how I view the effects of time and nostalgia on our memories, the way that pieces and details get lost along the way as we get further away from the original memory
