Working through writing my essay, I decided that including my personal experiences with the alternative and emo subculture/s was the most logical way for me to meet the points of my assessment. For the assessment I needed to describe the connection between the music, identity, and everyday life. At a concert for a popular band that falls into the emo subculture/genre of music, there was a great display of care from the band on stage, which to me and those physically around me at the time during it affected us emotionally. After the concert on the way home, I felt so connected and at ease with the people around me knowing that they were all just like me. This sense of community I had not experienced before, and I feel that that day and experience of mine is intertwined into my identity of today.
